Louis Japy Rococo Red Veneer Boudoir Table Clock
www.dragon-antiques.com Red Veneer and Ormolu Boudoir Clock by Louis Japy ~French – Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~ A beautiful antique French Rococo boudoir clock by Louis Japy. It is of typical Rococo waisted keyhole shape, with beautifully figured red veneer mounted with finely modelled ormolu (gilded brass). Ormolu mounts are modelled as scrolling foliage and ‘c’ scrolls. The dial is enamel on copper, has Roman hours and Arabic minute ring. It is complete with original finely fretted blued steel hands and has a convex bevelled glass. The French Pendule de Paris movement is by Louis Japy and has the clockmakers mark on the backplate along with the retailers mark, see picture below. The movement is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Pendulum is original. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is very good with some very slight marks and shrinkage cracking to the veneer. Veneer has a lovely figure and a good finish. Ormolu is in excellent condition with just some minor wear on the high spots. Original glass is in good condition. Dial is in excellent condition with just a short, faint hairline near the left hand winding hole. Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key.
